IMO, we still need to get much better to threaten for the SoCon title. Hitting is good at times but other times it is weak even vs mediocre pitching. Cravey, game 1 winner, was the really bright spot to me, but today we gave up NO runs in nine innings. Four double plays were the primary reason we won today. That does speak well for the defense that has had to make adjustments because of the injury to 3rd baseman Anderson who took a 100 mph. fast ball on his throwing hand at LSU. Staton was moved to 3rd, Anderson in a DH spot and true Fr. Davis to second base.
Speaking of injuries, we currently have 4 pitchers out. Ross, Goff, Bortak, and our best closer Carson Hobbs. That is really hurting us.
UTM Tidbits: The Skyhawks have more players from the State of Alabama on their roster than Samford does. They have a total of 9, which includes their leading hitter Will Smith, one of 2 players from Prattville. Their Asst/Pitching Coach Bill White is originally from Alexander City. He played collegiately for JSU and on March 17, 2000, White set the JSU D-1 strikeout record that still stands. He fanned 16 batters in a game against (gulp) Samford University.

Took care of business against a much lesser opponent. Back to .500. Encouraging.
