1. Expansion may be coming, but factual information may be hard to come by. There is, however, VERY good information that the SoCon has visited both EKU and UNA recently. The plans that these schools had to go FBS with their entire conference is not looking as good as expected. Then, there is the question of whether the schools would vote for these 2 programs. IMO, there is no way that 2 large publics could garner anywhere near the votes to make this happen. Is there a private or two out there that is also being considered? I have no idea, and again, read my title, I said RUMORS! Also, Campbell was ready to join the SoCon, but I suppose they were not invited, so maybe expansion is not even on the minds of SoCon officials.
My personal opinion is that UNA would be good for us to be in the SoCon, but not so much EKU. There is a massive campaign at TUNA to raise money to improve facilities. Of course, UTC and Samford would have no travel problems reaching the new SoCon school. Maybe the SoCon needs another school located in the Central Time Zone. I respect others on here that have a different opinion concerning North Alabamia.
2. IMO, totally false: Wofford is considering going to non-scholly.
Both rumors are probably false, but the way things are nowadays - who knows? At least some points to ponder.

This whole A-Sun/WAC to FBS scheme seemed outlandish from the get go to me. JSU, Kennesaw State, and Liberty are moving to Conference USA. The schools that are left certainly are not made for FBS. It seemed like all of that was poorly orchestrated.
That aside, Florence and Richmond are on the geographical fringe. It's a heck of a haul from Charleston, SC to either of those two locations. Competitively, EKU would be a better fit. UNA brings nothing to the table in football right now.
Campbell would have been a great fit. They are a private and more geographically located to the heart of the SoCon. Their baseball program has risen to the point where they are a perennial top 25 team. They draw fairly well in basketball and football.
