Yesterday it was Samford beating UNA 12-1 in a mercy run rule game. That is 5 games in a row the Dogs have won, but the competition was not the best, except for maybe the Columbia Lions. You can, however, see some improvement in their play. If and when we can get some of our best pitchers back from injuries, this team can be very competitive in the SoCon. In the meanwhile, maybe Samford can struggle through and get some wins. This weekend at ETSU won't be easy IMO. ETSU has 3 pitchers that have pitched 20+ innings and have held opposing batters to an under .200 batting average. One of those 3 is Colby Stewart, the preseason SoCon POY. That is quite an incredible stat IMO. ETSU has won series against Marist, Winthrop, Tenn Tech, and midweek against Appy. They have P5 losses to Clemson and Va Tech. There is no way to really compare their 10-9 record with Samford's 11-10 mark.
The Samford defense has been stellar, the hitting has improved slightly from my viewpoint. We have 2 Freshmen who are really good. It is unfortunate that Ross, Goff, and Carson Hobbs, who reached 98 mph in his last outing have not been available.

Tonight, it looked like Colby Stewart was throwing batting practice to the Bulldogs. He pitched 3 innings and gave up 8 earned runs in the mercy run rule game that ended 19-7 Samford at ETSU. Five different Samford batters hit home runs and that included two grand slams in this display of power affair. The Dogs also turned 3 double-plays, Cravey did not have his best night, but that didn't matter much with the barrage of runs that Samford scored. Lucas Steele was the POG as he had 6 rbis and 4 of those came on his grand slam. This young freshman is incredible. Hope we can win the series tomorrow.

When did TR jump to UAB? I know Casey Dunn had to pay him well to get him to leave Samford, and for that I’m happy. But, sad day for Samford. A more loyal friend and all around good guy there cannot be. He is/was a credit to Samford. He will be missed.

Pure supposition on my part, but it kinda looks like TR was able to retire from L.S.U. with 25 years of service and is now in the State of Alabama Teacher's Retirement System at the public university. The military term is double-dipping. It's good work if you can get it. BTW, I think he moved over between Dec 22 and Jan 23, just to answer the question.

So far it's another football score up in Johnson City. 12-3 Dogs.
In the 9th inning Samford got a safety and ETSU kicked a FG for a final score of 14-6.

A gem pitched by Brody Westbrooks - 6 innings with 1 BB, 5 K's, and NO runs allowed. Another day of offensive explosion - four HRs and 2 of those were three-run dingers by MVP of Game John Anderson. He was 3-5 with 7 RBIs. Freshman Phenom Lucas Steele was also 3-5 with 2 doubles.
Hope Soph. Will Lynch can bring it tomorrow and the bats stay this red hot. Broom time would be great.
