Man, I see no way those P5 schools pay those contracts unless the games are played.

All of those contracts have a "force majure" clause in them that allows for cancellation without payment, including language that if the conference (SEC, ACC) makes a decision (which in the SEC's case they definitely have, and the ACC has painted non-conference teams in a corner by having to qualify by following their safety protocols) the hosting school does not have to make the payment. Meaning, the SEC school did not cancel the game, the SEC itself did, therefore the contract is null and void.

I don't know that there is an out for the FBS schools since they cancelled the game. A contract is a contract. Force majeure clause would be the out, if written into the contract. However, there is the argument that the SEC, in particular, is actually still playing games, albeit a SEC opponnet, on the days they would have been playing a FCS team. The FBS schools could possibly prevail there, since the SEC schools will be playing ten conference games and they will be receiving TV money. They could be able to pay the guarantee, unless they can schedule the FCS again within the next few years, again depending on the contract clause. WRT to the ACC schools, since they have the 10+1 schedule, they could use their +1 with their scheduled FCS team. We know their +1 will not be an SEC opponent. Again, the ACC schools will get their TV money and could out of the goodness of their hearts, pay the guarantees. The winner? Lawyers. In the SEC's case, the league cancelled non-conference games. In the ACC's case they are allowed to play one, but the non-conference opponent has to adhere to there safety protocols and that's quite a list (expensive). My prediction, they will not be played, and no FCS school will try to fight for payment as it will greatly impact their ability to schedule games in the future. Please keep in mind, even with the payouts from FBS schools, football is still a money loser at the FCS level. FCS institutions will make money by not playing (penny saved is penny earned).

And FWIW, the Samford game has been removed from FSU's schedule on their official website.

If that list is correct, VMI on the list surprises me. Maybe they think they are on the rise and do not want to lose momentum (pure speculation). Or, maybe their basketball program sucks so bad that they finished behind Samford in 19-20 and it is either football or athletic dispair.
I'm not surprised that my team's name does not appear on the list. Probably saves Hatcher about 5 or 6 Ls on his loss record.
I'm also not surprised that Furman isn't on the list It straight up canceled baseball forever. Money problems. Say it, Furman is that family that looked good on facebook taking all those vacations and making all those fancy trips to fancy places and eating fancy food and taking fancy selfies with rich people at the Club, but ends up filing for bankruptcy, entering substance abuse rehab and divorcing their spouse.
Not surprised by ETSU or WCU either--they are ready for basketball season.
Wofford not being on the list surprises me. They seem to care about athletics. Come to think of it, it does give them another off season to figure out how to throw the downfield pass.

Just saw this on another website. Nice to have a money game. I don’t know what the seating arrangement will be in the stands. FC

FC WRT seating arrangement: Unless it is at 7pm EDT/6pm CDT or later, the Samford seats will be in the sun and will be hotter than the hinges of Hades. Even if they allowed Samford folks there, it's not worth it. Been there, done that, got the sunburn and heatstroke.
