OK, I expect incomings, but discussion is welcomed, so here goes. In looking at the new roster, I find only 2 starters not returning from the spring, an OL and our PK. I was shocked and thrilled to see so many of our older and better players returning. Also the signees list, including xfers, shows SIX players who were rated 3*** coming out of HS. Hey that is more 3*** players than many FCS teams have on their entire roster. Looks to me to that we have much more depth than most of our previous squads.
Yeah, I know we have had talented teams before only to be disappointed, but if we can't compete for a championship with this array of talent, then I'm afraid next year will never come. Serious questions must be asked if history repeats.
First Game - First Prediction: SAMFORD 41 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles 17.

If the QB stays healthy we have the talent to compete for a championship and win a game or two in the playoffs. But, the question is will we sit on a 17 point lead in the second half. We’d have been undefeated this past spring if we could defend a lead. Again, talent was never the issue.

Another serving:
I really like what new strength and conditioning coach Zach Mathers is doing. Previously, the emphasis was too much on strength and lifting goals. That is important, but so is stamina and speed.
Our electronics/ high tech is the same as Bama's and other bigs. A device that can tell the percentage of effort in practice and the speed of a player is something I don't understand, but hey my watch tells me how many hours I slept last night. As I understand it, Samford now has 4 players that have been clocked at OVER 20 mph and about 15 who have reached that goal. I don't know enough to tell about another device that the players use to play their games as if they are really happening. Maybe 2 Rings can help me here, but I have only heard a tiny bit about this.
IF things go as planned, look for Samford to announce another xfer. This will actually be a RB from a SWAC Team. The kid is a little different looking than most of our RBs, although Dakota is somewhat similar. He is one ball of muscle that even has arms bigger than most players' legs. Hope the admitting is or has gone well and the announcement will come soon.
Coach Hatcher has the players to win BIG this year. Just my opinion, but I think this team is the fastest in the SoCon by far. Depth is better than I can ever remember, the experience is there, and the talent is unmatched in the SoCon. A mediocre season should not be tolerated. Barring unforeseen injuries, pandemic problems, or other such issues, our first SoCon outright championship should be expected.

Gonna be in great shape if a track meet breaks out lol. Hope your right. Don't quite share your optimism about the talent level. Especially concerned about the quality of depth at OL, DL, LB and in the secondary.

Especially concerned about the quality of depth at OL, DL, LB and in the secondary. Since I have said that IMO this team will have the most depth(quality) of any Samford team I can recall, your contradiction is somewhat surprising. I value your opinion as I always have, but I am confused by your concern. I won't go into each position with depth analysis, but I would like to take your first position of OL. The other 3 positions I have similar opinions about. We return 4 of the five OL starters who finished the season. Another was Beau Myers who started the first 3 games, but missed the last 4 because of an injury. Now granted, you never know how a xfer will work out, but if the UAB xfer OL are even close to their hype, we should expect them to be good. Noble played in all their games and Motley-Simmons was a 3*** out of HS and offered by Nebraska, Louisville, and North Carolina. I think that juco Zach Bond who was first team All-State and played in the Miss All-Star Game will be a good one. Besides these four, there are 8 total Fr, RSFr, and Soph that are available, and some have logged PT. To me, that is certainly a bevy of talent that offers more quality depth than I can recall us having. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a feeling for success that is different this year. GO DOGS!!!!!

I haven't seen the UAB or juco guys play, but given that we have 4 of 5 returning and took those 3 transfers, tells me coaches are looking to improve that group.
