Barstool Athletics proclaimed JSU Volleyball RS Sr. Adelaide Halverson as their first sponsored athlete. That number has now grown to hundreds or maybe even thousands. Halverson has said that her social media followers have increased by 5X, that other companies saw this and also contacted her. In all, her experience seems to have been rewarding. Samford and JSU now have a handful each that have connected with Barstool. For Samford athletes that number is currently six. Barstool rewards the athlete primarily with clothing, such as hoodies, sweatshirts, etc. The exposure could be another benefit, as Halverson proclaimed.
There are potential problems, however. Rep Kyle South sponsored the state of Alabama's law concerning NIL. He says that Barstool sponsorship is a gray area in this state. The law says that institutions may prohibit athletes from endorsing any brand that promotes gambling. Barstool owns a satellite sports wagering company. The law also gives the schools right to deem if the arrangement negatively impacts the reputation, morals, or ethical standards of the school. South also said that because Barstool doesn't use a contract, legal issues against them might be hard to bring about. He went on to say that, in his opinion, Barstool doesn't reflect negatively on the schools involved.
JSU was contacted, but the school did not respond to the reporter's inquiry. Samford has not issued any statement(as far as I know) about the involvement of its 6 athletes.

I chose to not post the names of our 6 Samford athletes. Also, that number could possibly be increased by now. The six are 4 football, one baseball, and one is T&F.
