It might be time for the coach to hit the portal. For me, not yet. I think she has to take a real hard look at her program, top to bottom. Head coaches don't/can't evaluate every prospective player. They rely on assistants to do a lot of work in that area. We've obviously missed on several. She came in and had success in a really, really bad league. The league has improved some and we have not. For me, it's at a real crossroads. Hopefully it can get turned around.

I’d start from scratch on WBB starting tomorrow. I might keep one or two, maybe three players. I’m afraid our coach has an excellent eye for D2 talent. Problem is, this is D1. Need at least 3 players that can come in a contribute 8-12 points per game immediately, and rebound effectively. Good luck. Outrebounded by 18 tonight. Woof. The teams at the top of the league all brought in real talent via the portal. Wofford recruited the "co" player of the year, UTC got a first team All SoCon graduate transfer, and ETSU got practically a whole new team. The Three girls we got were total non-factors.

2019-2000 18-14 (143 NET) 2020-2021 14-9 (168 NET)
2021-2022 13-17 (263 NET)
2022-2023 13-17 (254 NET)
Personally I think she has to go hard in the portal. I would have been willing to concede a dip in the record if we saw promising young talent on the roster that showed signs of really jelling. Going into her fifth season, that ship has sailed, however. She needs to reverse this trend and she needs to do so quickly for the betterment of the program and for the sake of her own job security.
We closed out this season losing six in a row with an average margin of defeat by 14.5. This program is not only trending in the wrong direction, but is doing so rapidly.

We are bad. Our personnel isn’t D1. We are getting out coached and out recruited. I think coach is having trouble managing coaching and home. Her predecessor got comfortable and complacent. Why do Samford WBB coach’s start off so good, and get so mediocre.

New day of basketball. Wofford vs UNCG WBB. The G pep band is making its first appearance. Best part of today hopefully will be the bang-bang shrimp linguine at lunch in the hospitality suite.

If I was a SoCon WBB Coach, I think I would love to have Ngulefac, Marchbanks, Bowman, and Heidger on my squad. I would have lots of time to further develop their game and would demand my S&C Coach to work hard on their physical development. I certainly think there is plenty of D-1 talent and much potential with that group.
Here are some of my questions concerning our team. The disclaimer is that I don't see practices, nor do I know about attitudes/work ethics.
First is a broken record from me I know, BUT how could Macey Lee have led the team in scoring (even 2-4 from three-point land) and tied for rebounds in that early season 2OT loss at UCF and wind up getting to play an average of 8 minutes/game? She got to play 29 min vs UCF. She averaged 25.2 minutes/gm last season scored 21 vs the Kentucky Wildcats and 20 vs the Samford Bulldogs! I just knew that she would be our #4 position player this season. Heidger, when pressed into that slot, was certainly unable to manage the offside rebounds and other requirements there. She is IMO a very capable and potentially terrific #3. Wheeler will be gone, so I do hope Macey stays and play like she is capable.
Next, how is it possible that Emily has not developed into what we expected. With a RS year I totally thought we would see Bowman be stronger and contribute greatly this season. Emily Bowman averaged playing 13min/gm at Vandy and this season she logged 8.9min/gm. She played in every game at Vanderbilt in the covid shortened season. Do these numbers seem a little bit strange to other than me?
Ever heard of a player by the name of Nicole Azar? You won't find her on our roster, but if you look at the stats you will find her as #21 who played in 3 games and scored 6 points. She signed with Samford out of HS was red-shirted and was probably our most high-profile HS signee in years. She was all everything in Georgia, including the #4 ranked shooting guard in that state and was even a McDonald's All-American Nominee. I was confused, so I did my Twitter research and found what I think are the surprising results. She had a change of heart between Thanksgiving and Christmas, left the team, and will play against us next year as a Western Carolina Catamount.

Ankle biters outlast Spartans to face winner of UTC vs ETSU. Have to root for UTC so appearances of the Sugar Mocs will continue at least through Sunday.
This game has the atmosphere of a championship game because of the natural in-state rivalry.
ETSU appears to be feeling the effects of playing a second game within 17 hours. Never want to be the 3rd seed; 4th or 5th seed is a better position.

Agree with all of this, except that part about Nicole Azar. I have it from pretty reliable sources that she was not up to playing at this level, had a really bad attitude about her lack of playing time, and basically no one was sad to see her leave. Her HS accolades may be partly the result of being the daughter of a well known high school coach who I'm sure promoted her aggressively. She may a turn into a serviceable player at WCU, but I'll be surprised.

Thanks for the follow-up, Lurker. That really confirmed what I had wondered about with Azar and the coaching connection also makes sense. There is, however, nothing for you to disagree with me about because I never evaluated or made any predictions about her talent level or PT. If I implied that, I apologize. To me, it was just a puzzle and now you have thankfully supplied the last piece.
