The 11-1 mercy run rule loss to LSU was kinda expected I guess. Also, Paul Skenes did his usual and averaged 2 strikeouts per innings pitched (6 innings and 12 strikeouts). The one good thing for Samford was the pitching of Jacob Cravey. He pitched 5 innings, gave up only 4 hits, got 4 strikeouts and gave up 2 earned runs. He had to overcome some early control issues, as unfortunately has been his problem before, but he has really good stuff. The bullpen guys were tattooed pretty badly but we didn't see our best guys from the pen.
Around the SoCon: Wofford continues to not only beat but wallop opponents. They beat Cincinatti 12-3 to go 13-1 for the season thus far. Mercer had a big win thumping Baylor in Waco 11-2 for their 10th win. They allowed just 4 hits for the other Bears. UNCG beat Queens for their 6th win in their last 7 games which includes a series sweep over Rutgers. The Citadel beat Holy Cross 11-8 and now stands at 8-5 for the season. ETSU lost to Winthrop 4-3 and dropped to 6-7, and VMI lost to Radford 9-8 but still has a 9-6 record which includes a win over Mississippi State. The Catamounts split a double header losing to Michigan State 6-5 but beating Kansas 5-3.
In state schools, UAB and JSU continue to have hard times. JSU fell at South Alabama 6-3 and is now 4-10 on the year while UAB lost to Michigan
7-5 and now stands 4-9 for the season. The Blazers play at home Tuesday Night vs Samford.
The BIG story of the night comes from Tuscaloosa. The mighty Columbia Lions had won a grand total of 2 games before tonight but beat the Tide by a score of 10-7. Those same Lions play at JLG Wednesday night vs the Samford Bulldogs.
And that's a wrap-up from the diamonds of interest - You're WELCOME!
