Kaylee Yarbrough started for New Hope HS when she was a 7th grader. She is a class of 2025 player who reached the 1,000-point plateau as a Fr. Her nickname is "The Assassin" as she has scored in the 20s, 30s and yes even in the 40s in recent games. She hit 10 threes in 2 quarters recently and is quick to drive to the bucket. Yarbrough currently has 5 offers which include UTC and JSU. She has just committed to Samford. Now, I guess we have to hope some SEC type doesn't change her mind.
C J Johnston All-State player from VHHS signed with Auburn last fall. I do not know what happened, but he now is a Samford signee. Johnston is a powerful outfielder who is rated in the top 10 in the state. He has deadlifted 655 pounds in the weight room and Top Gun Baseball calls him "a human highlight reel." He joins fellow Vestavia teammate Jackson Harris who signed with Samford earlier. Both are All-State players and Harris was even voted the ASWA Alabama POY. I think he is expected to take the Dogs first base position immediately. The HC at the 2023 state champions Vestavia Hills is Jamie Harris, Jackson's father, who played at Samford.

Opportunity to step right in and play 1st base at Samford until the spot opens up at Auburn. 77 called it right.

BTW, speaking of baseball and Samford, it's Samford night at Regions Field on Thursday, 3 August 2023. The Barons are hosting the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The newest addition to the 77SU family of Samford fans will be making her debut with her grandparents and her family. Nannie will see to it that she is suitably attired in red and blue.

And Sonny D is a still a Panda. He is having a better year than his first. Last year was not so good, but he has 5 homers and 8 doubles for the Trash Pandas and is currently at a .239 batting average - not great, but better than last season.
