We have these things called mountains and no infrastructure to deal with snow. Best we can do is throw sand on ice and call it traction.

As for the weather, I just hope this game is not postponed. I would not be surprised though if it is. I have heard that the northern half of Alabama has already gotten lots of snow (snow angels being made in Florence) and there is an ice warning for all of central Alabama. Schools in my county are closed tomorrow. Where is that Global Warming, we hear so much about? Haha. So funny that a little snow could postpone the game. We have had 22 inches and negative 40 wind chills and Iowa State still played Oklahoma State in Ames. Just have Nate drive our bus. He knows how to drive in snow Western will not cancel because of the snow. Only way it's posponed is that Samford can not make it to Cullowhee. But they should be there already, so we play basketball tomorrow night...

Game might have been canceled here as Samford has gone online for tomorrow. As SU DOG said there is an ice warning. Much harder to deal with ice than with snow.

Going back a few years, okay maybe over a decade, because of weather the campus was closed. The game was held but no fans were allowed to attend. The visiting team had already made it to town, so we didn't have to cancel or postpone. The joys of winter weather in Alabama.

It is game day. The problem with game day, it can either be the best of times, or the worst of times—it is the tale of two universities.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the game of wisdom, it was the game of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the half of Light, it was the half of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to the NCAA playoffs, we were all going direct to the NIB—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

I think it is important to keep in mind that while this is obviously a huge game, the loser would still be in good shape at 15-3 and 4-1 in the league. It's still relatively early in conference play, but regardless of what happens tonight, I still think WCU and SU are easily the top two teams. I would not be surprised if the winner though starts to pop up in the others receiving votes in the top 25 though.

Anybody else been to the Furman Board? Man, their hate for Samford is unbelievable. Under Basketball - Topic 'Around The SoCon' pages 3&4 they talk of Samford's easy schedule, lack of success in Ashville, no team able to win tourney with our pace of play, pressing VMI with a 30-point lead, getting away with mauling the VMI players on our press with no officials calling anything, and maybe a few more insults that I have left out. I mean we do have some good conference wins even without our best player, and who have they beaten in the SoCon?
Such a dark contrast to the more civil and intelligent posts on the Catamounts Board. Tarnation! We are playing Western and not Furman, right?
