SU Dog, thank you for posting this article. When the Jax State football team moved to FBS and required more scholarships, more women’s scholarships were needed also. The bowling team was created and funded for 2023-24. The O’Keefes came to JSU from another college (sorry, having a senior moment) and brought some transfers with them. The bowling team has been outstanding, to say the least.
FYI, the first National Championship that JSU won was for the Women’s Gymnastics team in 1984 and they repeated in 1985.

Jax State Women’s Bowling won the National Championship this evening. They really are #1 in their first year of the sport. They join the two Women’s Gymnastics (1984 & 85), Men’s Basketball (85), Baseball (1991 & 92), Football (1992), and Cornhole (2020). That’s 8 NC’s and counting…

Bowling, once the most popular sport in America, now primarily a thing for a kids birthday party and drunk bored teens/college students. Every time I went to a bowling party when my kids were little and I bowled, I wondered why I didn’t bowl more often. So much fun.
That is truly impressive for the JSU ladies. No jokes about these ladies hanging out in the alleys and polishing their balls. This is an impressive accomplishment, made harder because of the NIL money required to recruit the top bowlers coming out of high school and junior college bowling. AAU bowling and Dexter Bowling Shoes have pretty much taken control of college bowling recruiting. Good wholesome fun at the Bowlero!
Well done, JSU ladies.

Oh, and it goes without saying, but granted JSU won this year, but if they are going to repeat they are going to have to clean up their first balls in the tenth frame. They aren’t going to win many unless they can roll a turkey in the final frame.
