For some reason I just assumed this was a school in NY that I had never heard of, similar to Kings college there, only in the borough of Queens. Turns out it is a school in Charlotte I have never heard of. After this weekend, I suspect it will go back into obscurity.
Speaking of not hearing, thankful that the highlights on twitter are without sound after trying to watch the game and having to listen to the resident expert announcer tell “any kids out there” how to play baseball. He sounded like Scott Griffin and if he is the name that goes with that voice, I remember why he got canned. Simply too annoying to stay tuned in. Did you know on a pop up in foul ground, a catcher, kids, should remove his mask and look for the ball in the sky (not look at the dugout or his coach.)? Riveting insight.

That comment was made right after the Queens catcher didn't bother to look for a pop foul behind him. The color guy who commented was E J Brophy Assistant AD who Samford is lucky to have in the Athletics Administration. Brophy played baseball and was one of the best to ever play at UAB. He signed with the Phillies and was in their organization for 4 years. After that he coached baseball at different levels for 7 years including one stint for Samford baseball. He does know a little bit about the game - LOL!

As an announcer, he’s got room for improvement.

As an announcer, he’s got room for improvement. Didn't watch the whole game but didn't think he was bad. I'll bet you'd miss him if they replaced him Curt Bloom. 😜

EJ was a fabulous catcher in college. He took charge on the field similar to Yadier Molina. I was able to watch him play at UAB in person many times and he was maybe the best college catcher defensively I've ever seen play. I've been told he was a very good baseball coach. I've listened to him before and he's very good in my opinion. I think folks will enjoy his commentary. I just feel he wants the listener to understand the way he was taught to play plus he's a former coach to young kids. I also don't think he's trying to be condescending either.

Judging from the parts of the game I watched, he seemed down to earth and knowledgeable.
