I have NEVER heard of a Friday Night Starter pitching a mid-week college baseball game, although it has probably happened. According to the game notes (and assuming they are accurate), JSU will start Austin Cornelius on the mound. He is a big Jr. RHP who even received an All-American listing from Perfect Game while pitching at Hoover HS. Cornelius was the starter in the first game of the series last Friday vs Memphis. The announcer on ESPN+ even called him as possibly the ace of the staff.
Meanwhile, Samford will counter with John Malone, a true Fr. from tiny Bayshore Christian School in Fairhope. Don't get me wrong, Malone has some talent, or he wouldn't have been recruited at SU. It's just that he will throw his first official college game pitch today while his opponent will be making his 32nd appearance.
Even when Casey was here, I often questioned if Samford took our instate opponents as seriously as they took us. I have posted on here in years before on this issue. We always seem to get the best shot from those teams it seemed to me. JSU has a series with South Alabama this weekend. I would have thought they would have saved Cornelius for that. IDK the reasoning for either coach and my questioning is certainly much more curiosity than criticism.

More than likely a bullpen day for Cornlieus anyway. Might as well let him throw 40-50 in live action.
