If Coach Kennedy left UAB as some fans speculate, their choice is clear. Without a doubt it would be Bucky Ball at Bartow, and some even say they are ready for it now. What brought some of this conversation up is a brief mention that AK is one name considered at Depaul. Most Blazer Fans seem to think that he would not take that job if offered. The point here, for me, is that the UAB Fans want our coach if theirs should leave and if not unanimous, certainly by an overwhelming majority. One question mentioned was would Bucky leave Samford for UAB. This is all discussed on a couple of threads on Blazer Talk, the UAB Message Board linked here at the bottom on this site.

Bucky isn't going to be here much longer. Unless the program takes a real step backwards, I don't see him being at Samford two years from now. If we make the NCAA tournament this year, that might be more like two months from now. If he's not at UAB, he will be somewhere else soon.
DePaul's a bad job. You have to go all the way back to Joey Meyer to find the last coach who won more than he lost there. Unless the Blue Demons unload some serious money, I agree in that I can't see Kennedy leaving a place where he played and was an assistant for a dead end job in Chicago.

Bucky's name has come up on a couple of Vanderbilt fan boards. No idea if he is a serious candidate to replace Stackhouse. Point being he's got to be at least mentioned for a lot of jobs.

Some team like Vanderbilt is a good place for Bucky. A school that requires a team that does something a little different than everyone else. Vanderbilt will never get enough talent to just beat teams straight up. They need a guy like Bucky
Since I don’t know the Alabama basketball landscape. Why would he leave Samford for a cross town team that, in my opinion does not seem like a step up. More of a lateral move. Does UAB pay that more?

It is hard to get figures from the privates about their coaches' salaries. From the public schools you can get the figures as they have to be made available. Of course, with each school there are incentives and bonuses that can be applied on top of the base figure. These may include such things as Power Conference wins, attendance figures, conference titles and who knows what else. I would think the median in the SoCon would be in the $200,000 to $300,000 range. The publics seem to pay a little more, but again that is hard to evaluate. Mike Jones at UNCG has a base of $400,000 and he is reported as the highest paid of the conference coaches. Interesting that first year HC Brooks Savage at ETSU was hired at a 38% cut from Desmond Oliver the fired previous coach. Without bonuses he will make $240,000 this year. The school has remaining payouts to former coaches including WBB Coach Britany Ezell and former AD Scott Carter. These payouts to date have exceeded $1.5 Million.

If you're an ambitious coach, which it seems from a distance that Bucky is, you have to keep moving up the food chain. The AAC is a logical next step on the ladder. I think of Will Wade's career path, Chattanooga to VCU to LSU. I could see Bucky following that same track. Samford to UAB to some SEC or ACC school would make perfect sense.

Don't see AK going anywhere, anytime soon, especially DePaul. But, yes, UAB is a much better program and job. 15 NCAA appearances, 12 NIT appearances and several NCAA wins. It's a no Brainerd if the opportunity presents itself.

That makes sense. I wasn’t sure if UAB was a step up or a side step. Always want to move up so I get that part

I would guess Bucky is gone at years end if he can win the conference tourney and get to the ncaa. Much like murray state which is in my area, one good year will put those coaches in the crosshairs of a lot of schools. Just pray they don’t do what murray state did and hire someone going the other direction…
