Checking in on the insane asylum and it does not disappoint. FU fans like their likely match up with WCU, Samford and UNCG.

Fans are funny. Actually, their opinions are funny. They are not typically objective observations based upon expertise, but rather sweeping generalizations laced with emotion of how they want the game to turn out or their team to be perceived by others, as validation of their own thoughts. The Furman mindset should be a thing in modern psychology. So much of the opinions on these boards are not so much about what they envision playing out, as much as what they want to play out. Inductive reasoning. I want an outcome, now look for the reasons why it will be so.
If you read the other boards, Furman thinks we will lose to Mercer, but if they don’t they’ve got a win in the bag because they match up well with us. WCU fans just think they are better and are relying on the “it is hard to beat a team 3x in a season”. Technically, it is hard to beat a team twice and it is exceptionally harder to win 3. That’s true. But, each game is played on its own odds, not in the aggregate. Here is an example:
FLCATAMOUNT Avatar FLCATAMOUNT Senior ******** Mar 3, 2024 at 9:40am Quote catamountalum04 said:If we beat Furman we will have a test against the best team in the SoCon and the only team to blow us out this year They should fear us. They will not beat us 3 times in one season. I think once we take care of Furman, Western will fill Asheville with its fans for the rematch and the game will be a home game for us. Their strategy will be to substitute liberally and wear out our starters. If we play good defense and Pelote comes off the bench and gives us 15 points, they can’t beat us. Our starters are better than their starters and their coaches know it. We need some productive bench points and we will be fine. Roberson has really been coming on lately also. We need to be confident and take care of business.”
This is the psychology of a child-like mind. And if WCU wins, it will cement in this guys mind that he willed it to happen—He is the prophet Isaiah spoke about. If we play great defense and score more points we will win. Our players are better than theirs. This is the stuff of genius.
I’d tell you what the UNCG fans are saying, but they have non fans. Zero. Dead board. Dead school. Thuggish collection of hired guns for a basketball team.
What will happen in the SoCon, you ask. I can confidently tell you “I dunno”. I hope I’m interested all the way to the end, however. It will make for some entertaining TV.

Dogs are a 3/2 favorite to win the tourney.
UNCG is next at 9/2.

If anyone is going up for the tournament, I’d be interested in reading your travel blog about your experience. Other teams fans (if you spot a UNCG fan who isn’t with the team staff), the games, parking, entertainment, etc.

Planning on watching the nets come down Monday evening. This will be my third Asheville tournament experience.

Due to a prior engagement, I am unable to go to the Saturday game. Assuming we win that one, I will drive over on Sunday and win or lose, I will come back home Monday.
As a number one seed with a 15-3 conference record, we are the consensus and unbiased favorite to win the tournament. We may wind up doing just that, but I wish I felt more confident about it. However, a lot of the folks out there who are not picking us are wish casting. They don't think we are good enough to advance very far because they don't want us to advance very far.
This is a big tournament for Bucky though. Win it and you look back at the previous tournament losses as being random outcomes. If we fail to win this one, these random outcomes morph into a trend and Bucky will likely be fairly pegged as the guy who can't get it done when it really counts.

I think that it would be unfair to tag Bucky as a coach who can't win when it counts, even if things go wrong this weekend. If that scenario continued to seasons ahead then yes, maybe fitting at that time. Anything can happen in one game we all know but looking at his coaching record of championships won in the past (HS yes, but still pressure packed) you wouldn't think that could be an accurate evaluation at this time. You are correct though in that some would quickly jump onto that conclusion. Hopefully they won't get that opportunity. Anybody have an injury update?
