Smurf, why are you concerned about Kentucky? Are you a Kentucky fan? Surely you aren’t implying that Kentucky has anything to do with Samford?

If UK hires Oates, then... I gotcha. Don't see that happening for a number of reasons, especially if the most recent Oats contract at Bama has been signed. I think Kentucky will and can go big. Drew, Hurley, Donovan in that order. Coaches like Drew and Hurley can't stay forever with the revenue distortion coming between the p2 leagues and everyone else. I believe the number is a like 30m a year difference per school annually. Just saw twitter persona Trilly Donovan (who seems to know things) is reporting Oats will not be involved. TIFWIW.

I am not sure Kentucky is the job it once was. Competitively Kentucky is clearly a step down from UCONN. While Kentucky could certainly pay more, I can't see him winning more at UK than at UCONN and he certainly has a great gig in Storrs. I'd make him tell me no though. Dude can flat coach. Watching them run their offense is like watching a smooth running machine.
Kentucky can go toe to toe with Bama on Oates $18MM buyout. The big question I think would be whether they want to go that high if a similar coach can be found at a much cheaper price. Scott Drew's buyout at Baylor is just $4.5 million. Is Oates worth the additional $13.5 million? Maybe not, but if Drew says no, maybe he is.
Can Donovan navigate a college landscape that is vastly different than it was when he was at Florida? Dude was a great college coach and he reportedly is interested in the UK job.
Brad Underwood is another name that has been floated for the Kentucky job.

No doubt about UKs resources. But I just really doubt a coach that agrees to that is interested in leaving anytime in the near future.
Hurley is fantastic for sure.

I’m hearing the AD isn’t pushing the Oates hire, and maybe it’s due to the buyout. I’ve also heard the buyout is actually 10mil because he hasn’t signed the new contract yet. I could see UK going with Drew but the fans won’t like that. I could see this ending with Donovan but with the nba season being 2 more weeks at least and him not bringing recruits uk would have to fill too many spots in short order. Everyone will be gone but maybe 2 kids. I do agree the dominoes could really fall and Bucky isn’t going to be long for Samford if he keeps playing his brand and having success.

This is such a big opening at Kentucky it will probably cause a huge ripple effect.

Oates just released a statement stating that despite any rumors to the contraire, he will be staying put in Tuscaloosa.

The AD just didn't announce the date for groundbreaking ceremony for the Coleman Coliseum replacement.

The AD just didn't announce the date for groundbreaking ceremony for the Coleman Coliseum replacement. Love that Oats did that. Don’t let your fans and recruits panic. Just come right out and say it

Yeah, the fact that he was proactive and issued that statement before Calipari even officially announced his departure from Kentucky says a lot about Oates commitment to Alabama.
