Unfortunately for us, he has to exit the room when any discussions of Samford are occurring. He has no input on where we end up or who we play. Yeah he has to leave the room. However, it’s not like they don’t talk to each other and tell each other what they hope to get

McNeese, Vermont, USF, UC Irvine, Grand Canyon, and Vermont are some of schools that are right there in that 12-13 range. The more of those that can falter in their conference tourneys, the better our chances of sliding in to that 12 spot.

Vermont is so good it got listed twice!
I watched a game they played this past weekend. They literally play in a gym that makes Siebert look state of the art.

I kind of liked the small gym we played in. When we had our back to back TAAC title runs it was nice to see the fans fill it or mostly fill it as opposed to almost never using the upper deck and only occasionally filling the lower bowl. It was a tough little gym to play in as a visitor. I wonder what it will take to pack the Pete. We always say winning will draw them in but I wonder if that will be enough. If as some fear, Bucky is snatched up by a bigger program will the little bit of progress we've made regress?

To pack the Pete, it will take a visit by a team bringing their own boatload of fans. The one sell-out and SRO game was because Steph Curry was a national sensation. There were as many Davidson fans as Samford fans that afternoon. We probably got quite a few community folks to come just to say they saw Curry play.
Bring in UAB or Auburn, that will pack the place out, but wait until construction is over and we get some of the parking lots back.

If as some fear, Bucky is snatched up by a bigger program will the little bit of progress we've made regress? The official capacity of Seibert Gym (RIP) was 4,000, but I honestly don't think it held that many. That place was a bear for visitors when it was full though. Some of those games we had against Georgia State in the TAAC were just electric. Packing Seibert was easier than packing the Pete as it held probably 1,500-2,000 less.
The problem with our success back then though was that we plateaued under Tillette after his back to back NCAA berths. While he was a brilliant tactician, recruiting was never Tillette's forte and because of that the program became very mediocre. Obviously we don't know how long Bucky will stay here and if he does, if he can take us any higher, but I don't see him being the kinda guy who isn't going to continue to recruit well. If Bucky leaves, he would take a lot of the current staff and sadly, we'd be back to square one in trying to get lucky to find a coach who could win 29 games. Sadly, that is the nature of the beast at our level.

Bucky held up his end. Time to hire a high school fundraiser, admn, or director of basketball marketing.

The Southland final is tonight. McNeese is the heavy favorite. A Nicholls win tonight would be a boost for our hopes of moving up to a 12 seed.

As expected, McNeese wins the Southland tourney.
