Not a new story as this girl's signing was announced back in November. A recent article in the Louisville Journal Courier, however, lists her as currently the #4 player in the state. She is First Team All-State Claire Johnson of McCracken County HS who averaged 23.1 ppg and had 2,424 career points. Hope things get better for Samford WBB and also that this girl doesn't change her mind and go Portal on us.

From all accounts here locally she is very much looking forward to Samford and I believe she chose the school for more than just the basketball side of things. In regard to basketball she will do really well I believe. She led her school to back to back state finals in a state that is not classed. She was unreal in the semifinals with 39 points in about 3 quarters. I think Samford got a good one. I really hope they can add some good players out of the portal, looks to be plenty of options!

The women got a commit today. 6’1” grad transfer from Richmond. Solid pick up.

Claire Johnson won MVP of the Ohio/ky game with 26 pts and scored 16 pts in the last 5 minutes of play to seal the victory. It was close to tied before a 20-0 run. She also won the 3 point competition and almost beat uk commit Travis Perry in an impromptu finale.

An engineer always has trouble with absolute certainty. They are never 100% sure of anything. 99.95%, yes, but never 100%.

Granted, Richmond was good, but I'm not expecting much. Yeah, her playing time was limited, but check her stats from the limited time she was playing. She had a 46.7% field goal average (14 of 30) and she was 10 of 21 for a 47.6% from 3-point land. That would have been at the top of our team's percentage stats. If she shows anything like her HS bio says, she could be an immediate impact for us. First team All-State in North Carolina and nominee for McDonald's All-American. I'm not predicting anything, just trying to be positive and pointing out some things to consider.
