Here's the tweet from the conference, if anyone wants to listen:

Don't see the committee rewarding a team with a non conference schedule ranked 328th and zero q1 wins. It's a bit long, but the SoCon Associate Commissioner interview with our AD is on Facebook and the AD as a member of the committee somewhat addresses the situation. Because of what happens in bigger conference tournaments, we could kiss any hope of an at-large bid goodbye. 👋 [/quote] You cannot schedule the 330th non conference and blame something else. Sorry.

I was going to post about not wanting to be the #3 seed in the tournament, because last year that game was the last one on Saturday night and the winner had to come back to play on Sunday evening in less than 18 hours. The Saturday night bracket last year was, in essence, #1v#8, #4v#5, #2v#7, and #3v#6, with the idea that on Sunday evening it would be #1v#4 and #2v#3. In fact, the way the bracket was set up last year, the #4v#5 winner had more time to rest/recover than the winner of the #2v#7.
This year the bracket has been changed back to what seems more beneficial to the higher ranked seeds. There is real incentive to be #3 rather than #4 this year. The greatest incentive is to be the #1 seed and win on Saturday night, since it will be over 24 hours before their next tipoff.
Quarterfinals // Saturday, March 9 // Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville // Asheville, N.C.
Game Matchup Time Game 3 No. 1 seed vs. Game 1 winner 12 p.m. Game 4 No. 2 seed vs. Game 2 winner 2:30 p.m. Game 5 No. 3 seed vs. No. 6 seed 6 p.m. Game 6 No. 4 seed vs. No. 5 seed 8:30 p.m.
Semifinals // Sunday, March 10 // Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville // Asheville, N.C.
Game Matchup Time Game 7 Game 3 winner vs. Game 6 winner 4 p.m. Game 8 Game 4 winner vs. Game 5 winner 6:30 p.m.

Please someone check me to see if this is correct. We have 6 games left with 4 of those at home. If we go a miserable unexpected 4-2 in those, wouldn't we still have the top seed? I'm basing that on second place UTC who is at 9-3 now winning out.

The important point to glean from this, is that Samford cannot lose more than two games out of the next six.

Samford 11-1 22-3 Chattanooga 9-3 17-8 UNCG 8-4 17-8 Western Carolina 7-5 18-7 Wofford 7-5 14-11 Furman 7-5 13-12 East Tennessee State University 5-7 13-12 Mercer 4-8 11-14 The Citadel 1-11 9-16 VMI 1-11 4-21
Western, Wofford, and Furman fighting for that 4th spot. UNCG on a two game slide. Are they going to be able to finish in the top 4? UTC simply whipped that UNCG tail end today.
Chattanooga and Wofford can end the aspirations of the also fans, Mercer and ETSU or either can make a move in the seeding race with a win. But the big game is Western/Samford at Samford. Samford can flex its muscle and continue to gain separation. Western fans think if they play like they did today they will beat us at Samford. Everybody has hope and a plan until you get punched in the mouth. I think Western fans are bipolar. Today they are in their maniac phase.

Western fans talking about Samford getting its @$$ kicked this week. Hmmm. One win against a team phoning it in and they are back from the depths of despair and ready to claim the SoCon title. Last week it was all “we suck” and “we are a disappointment” and now they are feeling their oats predicting a win. Whichever way the wind blows, I guess. I dated some girls like this. Low self esteem and emotional equals cray cray. I’m not saying their fans are crazy, I’m just saying that they follow their team like a bunch of school girls. 😏😉
