Samford 9-1 UNCG 8-2 UTC 7-3 Western Carolina 6-5 Wofford 6-5 Furman 6-5 ETSU 5-6 Mercer 4-7 VMI 1-9 The Citadel 1-10
A lot of good teams that can’t find a way to win consistently huddled at the 6-5/5-6 mark. Mercer clawing its way into that pack. The military schools proving once again why they drag the SoCon down. I realize they are old school southern (southern conference), but my goodness they should just drop to D3 and be done with it. Let’s add Tenn Tech, Campbell and West Ga and shed those two. Of course, they are a threat to beat us in our best seasons and, unlike Furman and UTC, they do have baseball teams.
A Samford win and the race for seeds 2 thru 8 become chaos/interesting. A win by UNCG and a couple of schools still have hope for a 1 seed. The thing I’m concerned about is that any team 2-8 can beat any team on any given night. The tournament is going to be a wild one.

UNCG is a 1.5 point favorite.

Lots of ball to play, but as I said eariler. Right now, G and Samford are the only 2 teams that control their own destiny for the 1 seed. A G win tonight, leaves G as the only team that does (assuming Furman stays above Mercer in the standings). We earned a golden opportunity to claim the 1 seed last year, and couldn't do it. Same situation this year. Hope the result is different.

Honest question here. I can't remember. Have we only made the final four once? And by final four, I mean final four of SoCon Tourney. I can only recall that one year under Scott.

We made it in 2022, a semifinal loss to Furman

Looks like we are underdogs again tonight. Guess we have to earn respect.

I read that line as the betters expect a close game and they are giving the nod to the home team.

Generally speaking the home court can be worth between two and six points, depending on the location. UNCG is playing in a cavernous facility that is probably going to be 80-90% empty. On a neutral court, this game is probably a pick 'em.

Don't discount the impact of a homecourt advantage when you draw like UNCG does. Not every team can get used to playing in front of nobody.
Historical note, isn't this the same facility we were playing in when HC Jimmy Tillette collapsed during the game and had to be carted to the hospital?
