Report says they will join SHSU, New Mexico State, and Liberty into the gutted Conference USA, along with current members FIU, UTEP, and LA Tech. JSU has never gotten over the Troy move to FBS, and some of their fans see this as the chance that they have been looking for, and feel that this is a move or lose deal. Others question this move and point out that their recent conference switch hasn't even had time to settle in. JSU fans also seem to think that this would open the door for instate rivalries especially with Troy, then UAB, and USA. IMO, however, UAB would never agree to a game, Troy would be reluctant, and possibly only USA might agree. All of these schools must have the approval of their presidents, so it may not be such a done deal after all. Personally, while I can see some rationale for JSU. The one that I really question is Liberty. It doesn't make sense to me. The Flames have been very successful in scheduling P5 teams. I don't see why they would join a conference that would undoubtedly be considered the worst FBS conference in the land. www.actionnetwork.com/ncaaf/conference-usa-liberty-new-mexico-state-sam-houston-state-jacksonville-state-college-football-realignment?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=BrettMcMurphy

What about exit fees? JSU was refusing to pay OVC, would they pay whoever they joined and now leaving before unpacking their suitcase?

If Jax State does leave for FBS, our fans would love to give our HFC to Samford (or anyone else that will take him) as a parting gift.
As for me, I would be happy with the ASUN conference, but I don’t get a vote. I know the current college football landscape is in turmoil right now, so wait another week and see what might shake out.
Exciting times we are living in.

Conference USA is a mess. I guess if you absolutely feel you must move to FBS then I guess this is one avenue to do it, but if I am a JSU or a SHSU fan, I find no excitement in joining a league that will clearly be the worst in FBS. Heck, even UCONN said thanks, but no thanks to Conference USA.
In other conference news McNeese State and Incarnate Word are leaving the Southland Conference and intend to join the WAC. What does the Southland do now?

Sadly, I fear that one day soon, college sports will be the demise of college sports. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Chasing that dollar. All about the Benjamins. Love that money! "I want you to say this grace right so we can win tomorrow."
A lot going on in this scene. It's hilarious, but a raw indictment of our superficial and materialistic society where we pray to a god conjured up in our own image. Nothing says hedonism, like JSU, NASCAR and the flaggets.

I think Liberty would do it just for ease of scheduling. They have had some decent matches. But yet they also had New Mexico State on the schedule twice in the same season in 2018 and 2019. I have to imagine it's very expensive to get decent home games (2 for, 3 for 1, etc) and a conference allows for the building of some rivals.

Smurf, C-USA is not the first choice for Jax State fans. I think there is a history of moving up that is a specter over the situation. When Jax State moved up from D2 to (then) 1-AA in 1993, it was a “catch up” move in response to troy state moving up. There was really no planning or budgeting involved with that move. For some time after the move to 1-AA, the sports teams were still operating with D2 budgets. That is a fact.
I see the same thing happening with a move to fbs. Show me the money! “It will come from larger game payouts and bowl games.” Maybe, maybe not. A move to fbs will involve more scholarship money and Title IX women’s sports.
Like I said, wait another couple of days and some other bright and shiny something will pop up. Stay tuned.

I see McNeese State and Incarnate Word are leaving the dismembered Southland Conference to join the WAC, and moving up to FBS football.
For McNeese especially this seems like a stretch.

It’s a done deal now. Jax State joins C-USA on July 1, 2023. Liberty, New Mexico State, and Sam Houston also join the conference.

Lol. Best of luck. If you aren’t Power5, you are in with everyone else. Good luck in the national championship game. LOL 😂
